Experimental Evidence for Beam-beam Disruption at the Slc
نویسندگان
چکیده
A significant luminosity enhancement from beam-beam disruption was observed for the first time during the 199798 run of the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC). Disruption, or pinch effect, is due to the decrease in effective beam size during collisions as each beam is focused by the field of the other beam. With beam intensities of 4.

SLAC - PUB - 5221 January 1 f ! $ HIGHER ORDER EFFECTS IN BEAM - BEAM DEFLECTION *
Beam-beam deflection scan is a useful tool, both in the SLC and in future linear colliders, for extracting information about the beam position, .w size and luminosity. This technique poses nontrivial challenges to the instrumentation in its own right. The understanding of all aspects of beam-beam deflection, in particular that of disruption, is therefore crucial to a successful implementation o...
متن کاملBEAM-BEAM DISRUPTION AND THE CASE FOR A PLASMA LENS IN e e COLLISIONS
After a short review of the expected beam-beam disruption eeects in e ? e ? collisions we show estimates that a plasma lens will improve the luminosity for a SLC-and NLC-energy e ? e ? collider.
متن کاملDetection of Beam Induced Dipole-Mode Signals in the SLC S-Band Structures*
Beam emittance dilution caused by wakefield effects is one of the important issues in the SLC linac. The detection of beam induced dipole mode signals in the C.. band range could provide a direct measure of the strength of transverse wakefield kicks the beam experiences in the accelerating structures. We investigate the applicability of these microwave signals for beam steering purposes. The RF...
متن کامل-survey of Beam Instrumentation Used in Slc*
A survey of beam instruments used at SLAC in the SLC machine is presented. The basic utility and operation of each device is briefly described. The various beam instruments [l] used at the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC), [2,3] can be classified by the function they perform. Beam intensity, position and size are typical of the parameters of beam which are measured. Each type of parameter is impo...
متن کاملRadiation Safety Considerations for the Parasitic Final Focus Test Beam at SLAC*
A low intensity electron beam parasitic to the operation of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) has been transported through the Final Focus Test Beam (FFTB) facility making secondary test beams available for users. Photons generated in collimation of the SLC electron and positron beams in the linac pass through a splitter magnet that deflects the primary beams away from the linac axis into the ...
